Poker Golf is an app that serves as an intelligent scorecard for a golf game that brings in elements of Texas Holdem Poker. The game is played on a golf course and all the rules of golf apply. The app facilitates what would otherwise be a complicated game (the use of poker chips to keep track of incremental betting would be outrageously distracting on the golf course).
Poker Golf has been designed to bring the fun and excitement of Texas Holdem Poker to an ordinary game of golf played with from 2 to 4 players, over 9 or 18 holes.
Poker Golf is a game rife with betting. Players bet at the start of a hole, after the tee shots have been taken, and on every shot thereafter (excluding the shots of players who fold during a hole). You have the chance to force each player to come clean on every shot and show their confidence by way of how much money they are willing to pony up. Players are well advised to keep their raises small because all these bets add up fast. If the players choose to play with no limit on betting, then they have the option of going all-in at any time during a hole. A reckless move under most circumstances, but one that could pay off handsomely for a player who can retain their composure under strain.
There is a lot of betting in Poker Golf, so if gambling on your game is not something that you enjoy, this is not the game for you. Like Holdem Poker, players buy in to the game with a fixed amount so that even if betting fever takes hold, players are unlikely to violate golf course dress code rules by losing their shirt. Over zealous gamblers who do go broke before the round has ended will get one, and only one, chance to buy back into the game for the original stake. Hopefully they learn some humility and practice temperance following the event.
Poker Golf is a game of bluffing from start to finish. It is a game of strategy and tactics, of manipulation and psychological domination. It is not a matter of winning and losing, but of winning and winning.
A player must try to bluff their way to getting a favourable handicap, or perhaps to give a favourable handicap to another player (without that player suspecting that it is willingly given). A player must pull their shots in order to drive the pot ever upward. A player must draw his opponents into tied holes so that they cannot easily opt out of the next hole. And a player must sometimes bet with undeserved confidence to escape from having to make a shot that is on the margins.
Quite simply, Poker Golf is the most exciting way to play golf. Go ahead, take a spin…
